My favorite tip to avoid burnout is to pace myself. For example: Last week I did three back-to-back full-body massages. This was too many, I learned.
In some ways the massages were "successful"; I learned a good deal, and the people I massaged were each pleased. However, I felt stressed and overloaded. At this stage in my study, I will spread out the massage appointments in order to allow time to reflect and regroup.
In reading this assignment, it has made me aware of the importance of keeping myself in check for the signs of "burnout".
My favorite tip is taking time away from massage therapy to bring balance back into my life. Going for a quite walk or hike, spending time with family and friends, helps to keep me grounded.
It is important for the longevity of my massage therapy career to take the time to recover and heal.
My favorite tip for avoiding burnout is to balance the four main issues of a massage therapy business: keep learning new techniques, keep building your business skills, keep working on physical wellness, and don't forget to work on your emotional wellness as well.
My favorite tip for avoiding burnout is definitely just taking the time to spend with my friends and family. They are all very important people in my life and they help keep me positive, grounded, relaxed, and happy. As much as this is important to me, I also agree with everyone else's posts above.
My favorite tip for avoiding burnout was to set aside "theraputic time for yourself" that involved anything except massage-related things (unless you are recieving a massage). The suggestions included going for a walk and spending time with the people you love, among other things. I think some of the other suggestions on how to re-vamp your massage routine were good, but if you are still focusing a lot of your energy on your business, you still run the risk of burnout.
My favorite tip for avoiding burnout is continuing education. I have been in the wellness industry for 26 years and I continue to grow and expand my knowledge. As a result, I have stayed in the same profession, own an incredible business and make a comfortable living for myself. I like to run to release excess stress and energy. I find having planned getaways keeps me motivated and avoid burn out.
One of my favorite tips to avoid burnout is to continue education. I am a very curious person, always wanting to learn more in the field of bodywork and complimentary medicine. Because of this, I took many Wellness and Alternative Medicine electives while at JSC. I think that if I was to start feeling the effects of burnout in my massage practice, it would be perhaps due to boredom of routine. That's why I would probably learn something new in the field to keep things interesting!
My favorite tip that I recently was introduced to was to start the morning with a relaxing ritual. Something like meditation, exercise, or yoga is what i mainly had in mind. To me this is a great way to start off the day and have a positive attitude. I think that alot of times my mood is affected by the manor that i'm woken up in the morning with. I feel that if i start the day off positive then it will end positive.
My favorite tip for avoiding a burnout is pacing myself with each client. I am the kind of person who likes to “get it done and over with” but I’m afraid if I have that type of attitude going into the industry, I’m going to burn myself out right away.. I need to remember to space my clients out equally and appropriately, meditate and ground more, and remember to eat and drink throughout the day, and have a full amount of sleep each night.
One of my favorite tips is "expand your repertoire." Taking continuing education credits will keep me on my toes and in touch with new developments in the massage therapy and bodywork industry. Through this, I can incorporate new techniques into my practice which will help draw in new clients and retain existing ones. Enhancing my skills and learning new ones will benefit both my clients and me.
My favorite is "take care of your body". For someone who believes strongly that it is a very important part of the answer, I sure neglect to do it a lot. Jeez. Yoga, meditation, chi-gong, and observing nature are what I have in mind. Plus I give flight to two birds at once - I feel better, and I complete my homework assignments for my Chinese Medicine class as well. : ) Whoo-hoo!
I think maintaining time for friends and family is important. Failing to do so may create regret in the future and that could lead to burnout. Your family also helps keep you grounded. Also finding time for self reflection is necessary.
Exercise/directing chi--My exercise has a tendency to fall off when I am stressed. I am careful that the exercise I do is regenerative, so I do not worry about overdoing that. I am well aware of adrenal fatigue and how to avoid it, at least as exercise is concerned. Directing chi , which we do in ChiRunning (my major form of exercise), is an important part of Biosync (another bodywork modality I am learning). There is a similar directing out, if you will, of toxic energies used in my cranial sacral training. I think learning how to do this more in my massage work and other areas of my life would be beneficial.
My favorite tip for avoiding burnouts is re-balancing yourself. For me, this could mean meditating, performing Qi Gong or making sure that I get in a good workout. Either way, making sure that I feel grounded, centered and aligned.
My favorite tip is to find something that makes me laugh. I generally pick something that makes me belly-laugh. Then I focus on controlling the urge to crack-up. When I find that I am happy enough, I then come completely back to what I was doing and my energy is then lifted and I can continue with my work.
Hello Everyone, so my tip to others that are looking to avoid experiencing "burn-out" is to force yourself to slow down or take a break. Cut back whatever commitments and activities you can and give yourself time to rest, reflect, and heal. When times are difficult be sure to turn to your loved ones such as family and friends for support. Simply sharing your feelings with another person can relieve some of the burden. Also, make sure to take time to think about your hopes, goals, and dreams. Becoming "burnt-out" can also be an opportunity to rediscover what really makes you happy and to change course accordingly. :)
Here are "3" quick reminders on how to help avoid becoming "burn-out":
Recognize – Be sure to watch for the warning signs of burnout. Reverse –Manage stress and seeking support. Resilience – Build your resilience to stress by taking care of your physical and emotional health.
Hi. My tip is self-care. Taking care of oneself by getting enough sleep, eating healthy and exercising. I have been doing this over the past year and find it has made me feel great! I am happier and I feel this will keep me on an even keel and help me to be a healthier individual overall.
My favorite tip for avoiding burnout would be to get frequent body work for myself. It is easy to concentrate on my own career and clients, but then to have it reciprocated for myself is refreshing.
I don’t believe in just one tip being a end al save all. If I had to pick one it would be number one on my list of tips below. Start the day with a relaxing ritual. Rather than jumping out of bed as soon as you wake up, spend at least fifteen minutes meditating, writing in your journal, doing gentle stretches, or reading something that inspires you. Adopt healthy eating, exercising, and sleeping habits. When you eat right, engage in regular physical activity, and get plenty of rest, you have the energy and resilience to deal with life’s hassles and demands. Set boundaries. Don’t overextend yourself. Learn how to say “no” to requests on your time. If you find this difficult, remind yourself that saying “no” allows you to say “yes” to the things that you truly want to do. Take a daily break from technology. Set a time each day when you completely disconnect. Put away your laptop, turn off your phone, and stop checking email. Nourish your creative side. Creativity is a powerful antidote to burnout. Try something new, start a fun project, or resume a favorite hobby. Choose activities that have nothing to do with work. Learn how to manage stress. Talk it out!!!
My favorite ways to avoid burn out is getting energy or body work done. I look forward to the relaxation time and a place where I can let go of the world for a little while! Self care is very important, and enjoying yourself :)
My favorite tip in avoiding burnout is daily doses of feeding my soul. The morning would begin with meditation followed by Tai Chi. Proper spacing during clients would be necessary, as I like to meditate a few minutes before each client arrives and "cleanse" (releasing negative energy) after each client leaves. I also like to read a daily affirmation. The day would end with a walk in the forest, spending time with my horses, and doing something creative such as painting, gardening, crafting, etc.(creativity is a must). In other words, my favorite tip.........SOUL FOOD!
My favorite tip about avoiding burnout is getting body work done myself. Massages really help me to feel re-fueled and relaxed and I know my clients will have the best expierence if I am feeling comfortable and confident becuase I feel well.
My favorite tip is self care. Being physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually well fills my reservoir. When I feel depleted I feel burnt out. Eating well, getting enough sleep, exercise, body work, staying in a place of gratitude and doing whatever it is that fills your cup is the best thing. When Im feeling good everything else falls into place
I need to get outside every day. Also all the other tools in the tool box are incredibly important. Get plenty of sleep, eat well, exercise, receive massage, pace myself, and lean new things will enable me to prolong my massage therapy profession.
My favorite tip to avoid burnout is to receive massages myself. As I am in the process of learning proper body mechanics and posture while giving massages I still find myself being sore sometimes after giving 3 or 4 massages back to back. In general I hold my stress in my shoulders. When I receive massages myself I feel a lot more loose and relaxed when giving massages.
I'd get to the ocean or other body of water as much as possible as water is soothing and healing. I'd also get plenty of exercise there and do yoga right on the beach
My favorite tip for avioding a burn out: Having a spa day with my best friend! Our bodies need to be loved and cared for. Massages and pedicures always make my stress go away.
I was thinking about what kinds of things might happen if I started to burnout. One not-so-nice sign of burnout that could happen (though it hasn't happened yet in any of my careers, I've seen it happen to others...) is that I could start thinking judgmental thoughts about clients. If I start thinking badly of my clients or notice that I want to speak of them in a judgmental way, I will apply myself more in meditation and notice what I am uncomfortable about in my own life and try to forgive and understand that so that I don't get so involved and invested in the lives of my clients.
Self care is so essential and important!!!!!!! I really like many of the self care tips listed, but my favorite ones would have to be eating and drinking healthy amounts of food and water. Its essential to take care of your body and mind by proper and healthy nourishment. My other favorite would just be self care. Doing something nice for yourself, such as getting a massage regularly or whatever suites your fancy! :) There are so many! you just have to figure out what works for you:)!
1. Get more personal massages 2. Talk therapy 3. Take a break for rejuvenation (if possible) 4. Increase water and nutritional food intake between sessions 5. Learn new massage techniques – attend seminars for latest new information 6. Renovate personal space (massage room) 7. Practice more Reiki. Attend more Yoga Meditation classes 8. Try new essential oil fragrances I think the above ideas would help me avoid personal burnout!
My favorite tip for avoiding burnout is making sure I spend enough time outside of work with friends and family. This really helps me balance my life and makes me realize there are tons of supportive people around me instead of just working all the time and feeling alienated.
To avoid burnout, I value listening to myself. One of my mentors says, "Every step a prayer, every breath a meditation." As I seek to live with that level of presence and consciousness, the more I listen, the more I can experience if I am living my life in the way that feels true. When I can recognize throughout the day how I am diverting from my path, I can seek to make small decisions to avoid a path that leads to burnout.
I think my favorite preventative burnout strategy is to delve into continuing ed. This opens myself up to new possibilities, new ideas and invigorates my practice again.
My favorite tip is knowing when to let go & screen clients carefully. I had to learn How to set boundaries with clients who were innapropriate, manipulative or too draining. I had a well paying client that paid up front and got a package rate. This client is unstable & was demanding, wanted very long sessions, and was jealous of my other clients, to the point of vocalizing this in public in front of friends & clients. Now she would like a refund of the remaining sessions & I should have fired her as a client much sooner than I did. Now I will be more careful in the screening process & make my policies reflect my boundaries & the things Ive learned.
My favorite tip to avoid burnout is to pace myself. For example: Last week I did three back-to-back full-body massages. This was too many, I learned.
